Multan Sultans announce Australian player as their captain for PSL 11
The Australian right-handed batter, Ashton Turner, will captain Multan Sultans in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Turner was bought by the franchise for PKR 42 million at the auction last month.
Turner’s stellar captaincy record in BBL
Turner recently led the Perth Scorchers to victory in the recent Big Bash League. Not only that, he is the most successful BBL captain in terms of win-to-loss ratio (minimum 50 matches). Of the four finals his BBL team has played (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2026) under Turner, they have won three.
In addition to the BBL, the Australian batter has also captained Durham in the 2022 Vitality Blast, though the side only won three of eight games.
Australians aplenty in Multan
Sultans have a strong contingent of Australian players, including, besides Turner, Steve Smith, Peter Siddle, Josh Philippe, and Lachlan Shaw. In addition, their head coach is Tim Paine, a former Australian captain.
PSL is scheduled to begin on March 26, with eight teams competing for the first time. While the schedule has not been announced yet, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that a total of 44 matches will be played this year.
