PSL could get a new venue as Peshawar gets security clearance
Peshawar could host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches as early as the upcoming season after a high-level security meeting cleared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security situation.
High-level meeting clears Peshawar’ security
The meeting was attended by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, senior provincial government officials, and military representatives. Naqvi was briefed on the facilities available at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium to stage PSL matches at the venue.
If approved, the league could add two new venues, with Faisalabad, which was added earlier to the PSL itinerary, also set to host its first PSL games.
Good news for fans
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the PCB chairman sounded positive about the prospects of scheduling matches in Peshawar.
“We are working with KP on domestic cricket and will give good news for cricket so that the talent here is not wasted,” Naqvi said. “We will collectively bring good news for sports in Peshawar.”
Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar last hosted an international match in 2006, after which the deteriorating security situation in the province pushed top-level cricket away. This was three years before international cricket in Pakistan went into complete exile.
Peshawar Zalmi, who have been sharing Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as their home venue, are likely to play their home matches at the venue if it is cleared for PSL use.
