Mohammad Rizwan ends his forgettable BBL campaign

For batters who scored at least a hundred runs in this edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), Mohammad Rizwan boasts the second-worst strike rate (102.74). This strike rate means he hardly managed to score a run per ball. The wicket-keeper batter ended his debut BBL stint with run-of-the-mill numbers—an 18.7 batting average, striking at 102.74—which are absolutely irrelevant for the format.

Rizwan’s pedestrian strike rate

He signed off the campaign against Adelaide Strikers, scoring a 14-ball-17. It would easily have been a 3-off-4 had Hasan Ali not dropped a dolly after Rizwan failed terribly at clearing the mid-off. Just a ball before he eventually got out, he hit Henry Thornton for a six over deep midwicket. This was his second six in ten games.

This becomes especially concerning when considering the fact that Renegades have hit the second-most number of sixes (71) among all BBL teams so far this year. 

Is it the end of Rizwan’s time in Pakistan’s T20I side?

BBL was Rizwan’s chance of finding a way back in the national side before the T20 World Cup. But contrary to that, his time in the league has smashed to smithereens any hope he had of a return. In fact, there is no saying if Rizwan would get a chance back, even in the league.

With gloves, he might be Pakistan’s best, but if the team is looking for a revamp in the format, they would know better than to allocate a spot specifically for this role. Especially considering that Pakistan are not short of wicketkeeping options who can bat decently as well.
