Mitchell Starc got off to a good start on Day 1 in Perth, taking three key wickets in the first session. He dismissed Zak Crawley in his first over before trapping Ben Duckett LBW with a quick delivery. Finally, he bowled Joe Root for a seven-ball duck.

Starc bowled superbly and kept England in trouble, leaving them at 105 for 4 in 23 overs at tea on Day 1. At that point, Harry Brook was batting on 28 runs not out , and Ben Stokes was on 4 runs not out.
