MI vs GT Highlights, IPL 2025 Eliminator: Rohit Sharma’s 81 Guides Mumbai Indians to Win, Set to Face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2

GT vs MI Highlights, IPL 2025 Eliminator: Rohit Sharma’s 81 Guides Mumbai Indians to Win, Set to Face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2Mumbai Indians are now just one step away from reaching another IPL final. Led by Hardik Pandya, MI held their nerve to beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the IPL 2025 Eliminator in Mullanpur on Friday. With that win, they’ll now travel to Ahmedabad to take on Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2, where a spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be up for grabs.

A day after Punjab Kings were bowled out for just 101, Mumbai Indians put on a brilliant batting display. Jonny Bairstow, playing his first IPL match for MI, came out all guns blazing in the powerplay, taking on the Gujarat Titans bowlers. GT didn’t help themselves with sloppy fielding, giving Rohit Sharma a few chances that he made the most of. Bairstow and Rohit added 82 runs in the powerplay — MI’s best start of the season.

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore gave Gujarat Titans a much-needed breakthrough by removing Jonny Bairstow for 47. Suryakumar Yadav continued his good form, crossing 25 again and Rohit Sharma brought up a solid half-century. However, MI’s momentum dipped a bit as both fell in quick succession. Tilak Varma stepped up with a handy cameo to push the score past 180. In the end, it was captain Hardik Pandya who finished with a flourish, smashing three sixes in the final over off Gerald Coetzee to take MI past 220.

Sundar and Sudharsan Keep Hopes Alive in Middle Overs

Chasing a big target of 229, Gujarat Titans were on the back foot early as Trent Boult struck quickly to remove captain Shubman Gill. Sai Sudharsan carried on his great form and put together a steady 50-run stand with Kusal Mendis. However, Mendis had a debut to forget, getting out in an unusual way hit-wicket off Mitchell Santner just as GT were looking to build momentum.

Washington Sundar and Sai Sudharsan took charge in the middle overs, hitting regular boundaries and keeping Gujarat Titans’ hopes alive. Sudharsan notched another half-century, while Sundar smashed a quick 18 off Boult, bringing the equation down to 53 runs needed from the last 4 overs.

Bumrah’s Death-Over Masterclass

But Jasprit Bumrah stepped up when it mattered most. He bowled a tight over, giving away just 4 runs and yorking Sundar for 48. Then Richard Gleeson got the crucial wicket of Sai Sudharsan for 80, turning the game in Mumbai Indians’ favor. Bumrah kept the pressure on, finishing with excellent figures of 1/27 in 4 overs.

Though Rahul Tewatia, Sherfane Rutherford, and Shahrukh Khan hit a few boundaries, the target was too far out of reach. With this loss, Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2025 journey ends. Shubman Gill’s team missed the chance to play the finals at home in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians move on to Qualifier 2, where they will face Punjab Kings. The winner of that match will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 final.
