Yuzvendra Chahal Injury Update: Likely to Play in Qualifier 2 Against Mumbai Indians
Yuzvendra Chahal Injury Update: While there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding PBKS leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal‘s participation in Qualifier 2 vs MI, those doubts have now been cleared. Much to the delight of Punjab Kings, the spinner is set to play in the match on Sunday, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo.
Chahal trained with the team in Ahmedabad on the eve of the game. He bowled two overs in an empty net, threw balls, and wore wrist protection while doing so. The report also mentioned that he took part in fielding drills and even played a bit of football, showing positive signs of recovery. This comes as a big boost for PBKS ahead of the crucial clash.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians might also get a boost as Deepak Chahar could return after recovering from a hamstring problem. The pacer was seen doing fitness exercises with the support staff and coach Mahela Jayawardene. On the other side, Yuzvendra Chahal was spotted doing fielding practice with the Punjab Kings team, showing signs of being match-ready.
Deepak Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal are both important players for their teams, even if they haven’t been at their best all season. Chahar has taken 11 wickets in 14 matches but has given away runs at a rate of 9.17 per over. Chahal has picked up 14 wickets in 12 games. The last time Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians played each other in IPL 2025, PBKS won by 7 wickets. Josh Inglis scored a fast 73, while Suryakumar Yadav hit a fifty for MI in the May 26 match in Jaipur, but his efforts couldn’t stop the defeat.
Punjab Kings Struggle with Batting on Green Pitch in Qualifier 1 Defeat to RCB
Punjab lost their Qualifier 1 match to RCB after their strong batting did not click at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The team, led by Shreyas Iyer was all out for just 101 runs on a green pitch that helped the bowlers. RCB played smartly and chased the target easily winning by eight wickets with 10 overs to spare. Now, Punjab want to bounce back from that loss and keep their hopes alive for their first-ever title. The Ahmedabad pitch looks good for batting, so Punjab’s batsmen will be keen to perform well if the conditions stay the same. PBKS bowling coach James Hopes is determined to help the team get back to winning ways.
Shreyas Iyer Urges Team to Adapt Batting to Variable Pitch Conditions
“Not a day to forget, but got to go back to the drawing board. We lost a lot of wickets. There’s a lot to go back and study on. I am not doubting my decisions, to be honest. Whatever we did in terms of planning, outside of the ground, whatever we did, I think it was on point. Just that we couldn’t execute it on the field," Shreyas said.
“Can’t even blame the bowlers, as it was a low total to defend. We’ve got to work on our batting, especially on this wicket. In all the games we have played here, there has been some variable bounce. We can’t give such reasons because we are professionals at the end of the day, and we have to bat according to the situation, and we have to live up to it," Shreyas stated.
“We have lost the battle, but not the war," he concluded.
