Lahore Qalandars’ David Wiese withdraws from PSL 11
Lahore Qalandars all-rounder David Wiese will not join the franchise for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Wiese, a PSL regular who has played in eight editions, has pulled out of the league due to family commitments.
Wiese over the years for Lahore
The Namibian all-rounder has been an integral part of Lahore’s core, having played 53 matches for the franchise over the years. In his role as the team’s finisher, Wiese stitched up some match-winning innings, including his incredible all-rounder performance in the PSL 5 eliminator, where he scored 21-ball 48* and followed it up with taking three wickets. His contributions in that game took the Qalandars to their first-ever PSL final.
Wiese played only one PSL game last year as he did not return following the resumption of the league after a pause amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Will Wiese ever return to the PSL?
Lahore Qalandars’ owner, Sameen Rana, speaking about Wiese’s decision, said that the team will look forward to getting him back in the upcoming seasons.
“David has been an integral part of the Lahore Qalandars family and our leadership group for many years. His contributions extend far beyond on-field performances. We fully respect his decision to prioritise his family at this time and look forward to welcoming him back in the coming seasons,” Rana said.
The decision was announced a day before PSL franchises are due to submit their retentions for the season. Amid several significant changes this year, all teams have been allowed to retain only four players, one per category.
