Kashvee Gautam Earns Maiden Call-Up as India Announces Squad for Women’s Tri-Nation Series
The Indian Women’s Selection Committee announced the Indian squad that will face South Africa and Sri Lanka in the Senior Women’s Tri-National series set to commence on the 27th of April. The curtain raiser features India taking on Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which will also be the venue for all other fixtures in the tournament.
The Indian contingent will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana acting as Vice-Captain.
Some well-known names are missing from the squad, including fast bowlers Renuka Singh Thakur, Titas Sadhu, and Pooja Vastrakar, who are all out due to injuries. Also, top-order batter Shafali Verma has once again not been picked, as her wait for a comeback continues.
One of the biggest highlights in the squad is the inclusion of Kashvee Gautam. She stood out in this year’s WPL, taking 11 wickets and becoming the joint-highest wicket-taker among Indian bowlers alongside Shikha Pandey. Not only is she a clever fast bowler, but she can also hit big shots down the order, which made her case even stronger for a first-time selection in the national team. Two more fresh faces in the squad are left-arm spinners N Shree Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay. Shuchi, in particular, grabbed attention by being named the Player of the Tournament in last year’s Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy.
The Tri-Series will begin on April 27. India will play the first match against Sri Lanka, who are hosting the series. The final match will be held on May 11. Each team will play 4 matches. The two teams with the most wins will play in the final.
India’s squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, Tejal Hasabnis, Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay
