IPL 2026: KKR Not Rushing Rana Replacement Amid Bowling Concerns - Reports

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are not rushing into any decision. One of their key Indian pacers, Harshit Rana has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after undergoing knee surgery. He picked up the injury during a warm-up match before the T20 World Cup leaving KKR short on Indian fast bowling options even before the season begins.
The visuals from the BCCI Naman Awards, where Rana was seen walking with a crutch made the situation clear. Later, Abhishek Nayar also confirmed that he will miss the season. It was a big setback for the team, but KKR have decided to stay patient instead of making a quick call.

KKR Take Wait-and-Watch Approach on Rana Replacement
According to reports, KKR are in no hurry to announce a replacement. They have looked at several options but feel there is no proper like-for-like replacement for Rana. The Delhi pacer was improving quickly and had already made his debut for India in all three formats in a short time.
Rana also added value with the bat as he could score quick runs down the order. Right now, RS Ambrish looks like the closest option within their system. He recently played a key role in India’s U-19 World Cup win. Apart from him, KKR have tested multiple pacers like Simarjeet Singh, Navdeep Saini, Akash Madhwal, KM Asif and Sandeep Warrier in trials held at Eden Gardens and Mumbai.
Among them, Simarjeet Singh seems slightly ahead. He bowls at good pace, hits the deck hard and can deliver yorkers in the death overs, similar to Rana. KM Asif has been in good domestic form, while Sandeep Warrier brings experience and familiarity with the KKR setup, which could be useful in a long tournament.
Even with these options, the team management is not fully convinced yet. Their fast bowling unit already looks thin. Akash Deep is out, Pathirana is still doubtful, Mustafizur Rahman is not in the squad and Andre Russell’s overs are also missing. KKR now have to depend on Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi and Blessing Muzarabani, who did well in the T20 World Cup. The team has also signed young left-arm pacer Saurabh Dubey as a replacement for Akash Deep.
