Indian Fans Angry over Inconsistent Umpiring

Two controversial umpiring decisions from the third umpire in the ongoing border Gavaskar trophy have angered Indian fans on social media. The Indian team also showed its disagreement over the umpire's decision and hastiness, which raised concerns about the umpiring from fans around the world.

During day 2 of the series' second test (day/night), new controversy emerges over the third umpire's decision and their hastiness in the decision. Mitchell Mars was batting in the first innings, and Ashwin was bowling; a ball hit Marsh's pad, and Ashwin promptly appealed to the umpire for the lbw, but the umpire gave not out. After the discussion, the Indian team took the review. In the later replay, it was visible that the ball hit the the pad first, but Umpire Richard Kettelbrough stated that there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the field umpire's decision; he took the decision by relying on side view without waiting for more angles, that cause the India is review. 

Later, TV replays show that it was pad first, and if the umpire had waited, though, the decision would have remained the same, as the ball tracking later showed that it was the umpire's call. But, it would have retained India's review. Though the decision wouldn't have changed, the controversy lies in the fact that the umpire didn't wait for more visuals in a similar situation in the last match and gave KL Rahul out.

After the umpire decisions, Virat confronted the umpire, saying, "KL was the same in Perth bat and pad," and questioned how the decision went against India at both times when the situation was similar.

n the TV broadcast, commentator Matthew Hayden questioned, "I don't understand how we get better pictures after the decision has been made". The front-on replay clearly showed the ball hitting the pad first. The last match’s controversial decision During the last test match, when KL Rahul was batting, a Mitchell Starc ball hit KL's pad while he was batting at 26. When the ball was near the bat at the same time, the bat hit the pad too, and umpire Richard Kettelbrough gave not out; Australia challenged the decision and took the review; the third umpire saw the spike in the Snickometer when the bowl was near the bat and, without waiting for the different visual angles to come in, he gave out without any conclusive evidence that the ball touched the bat. Later replays show that the bat hit the pad.

Lack Of Proper Technology

The primary reason for the bad decision is the use of Virtual Eye technology. In other parts of the world, Hawk-Eyed is used, which requires its camera and fixed equipment, but in Australia, it relies on a broadcasting camera, which causes a delay in providing the footage to the umpire. This was proved during the commentary, as they had better camera angles later.

 This controversial decision again highlights the need for standard and reliable DRS technology and set guidelines and protocols for umpires while reviewing the decision.
