India Tour of Bangladesh in August 2025 Uncertain as BCCI Awaits Government Clearance
The white-ball series between India and Bangladesh, scheduled for August, is now uncertain as the BCCI is still waiting for clearance from the Indian government. India was supposed to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka starting August 17, as part of the ICC Future Tours Programme. However, rising political tensions in the region especially between India and Pakistan and the change in government in Bangladesh last year have cast serious doubt over whether the tour will go ahead as planned.
After a lengthy board meeting on Monday, BCB President Aminul Islam confirmed that discussions with the BCCI regarding India’s tour are ongoing. He stated that while the series was originally scheduled for August or September, both boards are open to finding an alternative window if the current one doesn’t work out. "We’re having positive discussions with the BCCI. It’s not like (hosting India) in August or September; we are having discussions about how we can do the series, and if we cannot host it now, we will do it at another possible time,” he said. Aminul added that while India haven’t formally requested a postponement, the tour hinges on a green light from the government.," Aminul said. The BCB remains hopeful, but the final call will rest with Indian authorities.
BCB Open to Rescheduling India Series if Required
The India vs Bangladesh white-ball series set for August is now uncertain, as the BCCI is still waiting for government approval. The tour includes three ODIs and three T20Is, starting August 17 in Dhaka. While the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) says talks with BCCI are going well, they’re also open to rescheduling if needed. Finding a new date won’t be easy, though, since India’s calendar is packed with the T20 World Cup and IPL coming up.
This series is important for both sides. India hasn’t won an ODI series in Bangladesh since 2014, so this would be a good chance to change that. With veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli possibly returning to ODIs, fans were looking forward to the tour. The T20Is would also be historic marking India’s first bilateral T20I series in Bangladesh.
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently recovering from sports hernia surgery in Germany and may miss the upcoming Bangladesh tour. If he isn't fit in time, Axar Patel is likely to step in as captain. With the Test squad returning from England just days before the ODIs begin, key players like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant are expected to be rested, giving head coach Gautam Gambhir a chance to experiment ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Meanwhile, the BCB announced Simon Taufel’s appointment for umpire training and shared plans to expand their men’s and women’s selection panels.
