Das hails coach Mushtaq Ahmed for helping him ‘remove the fear of getting out’
Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Litton Das has acknowledged that Mushtaq Ahmed has helped him overcome his fear of getting dismissed.
Mushtaq helps Das overcome his fear
Das said the fear held him back, which prolonged his woes with the bat. Former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed joined Bangladesh as their spin bowling coach for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Litton’s own form during that time had dipped as he averaged 23 during the World Cup. However, Mushtaq’s presence helped him get a shift in his mindset as he regained his form. Since November last year, Das has scored two centuries in Test cricket, one each against Ireland and Pakistan. This was his first ton since 2022 in Test cricket.
“My mindset has changed a lot, and I’ve been working with someone on it. He has helped me transform my cricketing mindset, which removed the fear of getting out. That fear used to put me in a negative space for a long time in my career, but now I’m not in that mindset anymore,” Das said.
Mushtaq’s vast experience
He further said that Mushtaq’s experience as a coach with several big teams helped him understand the wicketkeeper’s problems more efficiently.
“Ever since Mushtaq Ahmed joined the Bangladesh team, he has changed my mindset. I don’t even know how he did it. After coming to Bangladesh, he spoke with me for a few days, and we still talk regularly. Since he has coached in different countries, he understood my problems and helped me accordingly.”
