IND vs SA 2025: Morne Morkel Backs Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli for 2027 ODI World Cup After Tough Practice Sessions
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel highlighted the value of having experienced players in the team and showed his support for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Both former India captains are set to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting Sunday, November 30, in Ranchi.
Morkel added that as long as Rohit and Kohli keep themselves fit and work hard behind the scenes, there’s no reason they can’t be part of the World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
“Sure, they are top-quality players,” Morkel told the media when asked if he supports Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli playing in the 2027 World Cup.
He said that,
“As long as they are willing to work hard and stay fit. Experience like theirs is rare. They have won big trophies and know how to handle big tournaments. If they keep themselves fit and feel their bodies can handle it, then yes, they can definitely play. The World Cup is still far away, but why not,”
Morkel also admitted that when he played, bowling to Rohit and Kohli was very challenging.
“I have played many games against them and had sleepless nights thinking about bowling to them. As a bowler, you know how tough it is to prepare for them. So, I fully support having them in the team,” he said.
Excited about the upcoming white-ball series, Morkel said that even though India struggled in the two Test matches against South Africa, he is looking forward to the limited-overs games. He believes the Men in Blue will be strong and hard to beat in the coming matches.
