ICC Expected to Announce Key Decision Soon on India vs Pakistan Match at T20 World Cup 2026: Report

Ties between India and Pakistan have hit a new low after Pakistan carried out an unprovoked attack on Indian border areas. This came shortly after the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Although both countries have agreed to a ceasefire for now, India is moving ahead with cutting off all diplomatic ties with Pakistan. Cricket between the two nations is also likely to be impacted. A big decision is expected soon about the T20 World Cup 2026, where India and Pakistan might come face to face again.

ICC Considers Separating India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup Group Stage

A key meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to take place from July 17 to 20. One of the main topics likely to come up is the future of India vs Pakistan matches in the T20 World Cup. Usually, the two teams end up in the same group in most ICC tournaments. But this time, things might be different. According to a report by PTI, the ICC is considering not putting India and Pakistan in the same group for the upcoming tournament.

If it happens, India and Pakistan will face each other only if both teams make it to the knockout stage.

"The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference. While the prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility," a source in the BCCI told PTI.

India Withdraws from Asia Cup 2025 Over ACC Leadership Concerns

The Asia Cup 2025 was expected to take place in September. However, according to a report by The Indian Express, the BCCI has decided not to take part in the tournament. The main reason is that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is currently led by Pakistan’s interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi. With India pulling out, it now seems likely that the tournament won’t happen at all.

BCCI secretary Devajeet Saikia said that they haven’t really thought about the Asia Cup 2025 yet. Right now, their main focus is on finishing the IPL 2025 smoothly and preparing for the upcoming India vs England series.
