Gavaskar Criticizes BCCI for Undermining Ranji Trophy Amid IND A Tours

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed strong concerns over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not giving sufficient importance to the Ranji Trophy. His comments come in light of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, which will see several players sidelined from the ongoing 90th edition of the premier domestic tournament.

Earlier this year, the BCCI reprimanded players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan for their lack of participation in domestic cricket, subsequently leaving them off the central contracts list. During the lead-up to India's international home season, notable players including KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant participated in the Duleep Trophy, suggesting the board's commitment to fostering domestic cricket.

However, Gavaskar's criticism highlights a troubling trend. He noted that with the impending Australia tour for the 'A' series, more players will miss out on the Ranji Trophy, further diluting its significance. "As India competes against New Zealand, some players are already engaged in the Emerging Players Asia Cup. If our best talents continue to be pulled from the Ranji Trophy for other events, it undermines the value of our national tournament," he remarked.

Gavaskar's statements resonate with concerns that the BCCI's scheduling priorities may be jeopardizing the integrity and prestige of India's domestic cricket scene.
