The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 Team of the Tournament on Monday, featuring only one Indian player: captain Harmanpreet Kaur. In what was a challenging campaign for India, Kaur emerged as a standout performer, finishing as the team's highest run-scorer with 150 runs across four innings, placing her fourth overall in the tournament.
Kaur's impressive performance included two half-centuries, giving her an exceptional average of 150. Her strike rate of 133.92 ranked fifth in the competition. A pivotal moment came when Kaur scored a rapid 52 off 27 balls against Sri Lanka, a crucial innings that kept India's semifinal hopes alive.
On the other hand, South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt made her mark as a consistent opener. She scored over 30 in nearly every match, with four innings exceeding the 40-run mark. Wolvaardt's highest score was in South Africa's opening game, but it was her resilient 42 in the semifinal that laid the foundation for a successful chase against Australia.
While chasing a target of 135, Wolvaardt's brisk scoring, including three fours and a six, allowed her teammate Anneke Bosch to settle in and deliver a remarkable counter-attack. Their partnership played a key role in propelling South Africa to the final, with Bosch amassing 187 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 37.40, making her the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
