England's dominating victory pushed New Zealand to the back foot.

England's dominating victory pushed New Zealand to the back foot.

With a dominating performance in Wellington, England won its first series in New Zealand after over 15 years. England registered a historic 323-run victory over New Zealand with an all-round performance. Harry Brooks became the match's hero after scoring an outstanding 100 in the first innings and fifty in the second innings; he later became the Man of the match. Along with him, Gus Atkinson also delivered a noteworthy performance, including a hat trick in the first innings.

England's average batting in the First-innings

In the first innings, England scored 280; most batters in the inning were flops except Harry broke and Oli Pope, who scored 174 run partnership for the 5th wicket. Harry Brook scored a magnificent century, but unfortunately, he was run out at 123 by Nathan Smith. Pope scored a critical fifty, saving England's collapse in the first innings. Other than these two, none of the batters could score 20 runs; none even played 50 balls. From the New Zealand side, Nathan Smith picked the wicket of four England betters in 86 runs in addition to the critical run out of Harry Brooks.

England's dominating victory pushed New Zealand to the back foot.

The Great New Zealand's collapse

After stopping England at a score of 280, New Zealand fans were expecting the team to gain a sizeable lead, but what happened next wasn't expected by anyone; in front of England's bowlers, the New Zealand batter just surrendered and couldn't even play 35 overs none of the better scored even 20 runs except Kane Williamson who scores 37 out of 56 balls. After the top and middle order collapse, Gus Atkinson finished New Zealand batting in just three balls with a hat trick on day 2. He became the 14th England's bowler in Test cricket to register a hat trick.

In the 34th over

  • Atkinson bowled out Nathan Smith at the third ball of the over.
  • He took the second wicket of Matt Henry, who got caught at the Gully
  • On his hat-trick ball, he lbw the Tim Southee on his very first ball.

England's dominating victory pushed New Zealand to the back foot.

In the second inning, England scored 427 runs with Joe Roots' 36th International test hundred along with him, Ben Duckett and young Jacob Bethell, who just debuted in the last match, scored 96. First-inning centurion Harry Brook also contributed 55 runs. With multiple performances, England got a lead of over 550 runs, after which they declared the innings.

New Zealand struggled in the last innings.

In chasing a mighty score of 583 runs, only two New Zealand players tried to give a fight back; the score was too big to be achieved by just two players amid collapse. From the New Zealand side, wicketkeeper Tom Blundell scored an attacking 100 and Nathan Smith, who scored 42. Other batters didn't help him chase the target, which resulted in New Zealand's loss

All the England bowlers took wickets in the New Zealand 2nd inning, with Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Sohaib Bashir each taking 2-2 wickets, captain Ben Stokes taking three, and Gus Atkinson taking one wicket.

This Big win boosted England's morale and helped him make history, winning the series on New Zealand soil after 15 years. However, this performance couldn't support England in their WTC final chances.
