England Women Announce T20I Squad for India Series, Ecclestone Makes Comeback
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named a 14-player squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, starting June 28. One of the standout returns is Sophie Ecclestone is back after taking a short break from the game. The left-arm spinner had stepped away earlier this month to recover from a minor quad injury and to take care of her overall well-being. After the T20Is, the India Women’s team will also play a three-match ODI series as part of their tour of England.
India and England will kick off their T20I series on June 28 at Trent Bridge. The second game is set for July 1 in Bristol, followed by the third match at The Oval on July 4. The series will conclude with the final two games on July 9 and 12 at Old Trafford and Edgbaston. England Women’s head coach Charlotte Edwards shared her thoughts on Sophie Ecclestone’s return, saying it’s great to have her back in the squad. She also admitted that while Ecclestone’s presence strengthens the team it likely means leg-spinner Sarah Glenn will have to sit out given the team balance.
"It's great to have Soph back, and we're looking forward to having her back in the group. She has obvious qualities and she'll be an asset to us. It does mean Sarah Glenn misses out, we are blessed with a strong group of spinners and we unfortunately can't play them all. It's now a great opportunity for Sarah to go back to The Blaze and play some competitive cricket in the Vitality Blast,” Edwards was quoted as saying by ESPN India.
