CT 2025 Points Table: Rachin's Ton, Bracewell's Spin Oust Bangladesh from Champions Trophy

CT 2025 Points Table: Rachin's Ton, Bracewell's Spin Oust Bangladesh from Champions TrophyNew Zealand side led by Mitchell Santner completed a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the sixth match of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.

Bangladesh’s Struggles with the Bat

Bangladesh got off to a steady start against New Zealand in the sixth match of the Champions Trophy 2025 after being put in to bat on a hot afternoon in Rawalpindi. Opener Tanzid Hasan looked promising, scoring 24 runs off as many balls before getting out with the team's total at 45 in 8.2 overs.

Soon after, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who came in at number three, was dismissed for just 13 runs, putting Bangladesh in a tough spot. Sensing the pressure, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had opened the innings with Tanzid Hasan, stepped up. He took on the Kiwi bowlers, offering some much-needed stability and relief for the Tigers in the first half of the game.

However, he did not get the required support from the other end, considering they were reduced to 118 for 5, with Michael Bracewell picking figures of 4 for 26 in his 10 overs, putting Bangladesh in deep trouble.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and middle-order batter Jaker Ali took charge, trying to steady the innings after Bangladesh lost five wickets cheaply. Shanto fought hard and brought up his half-century off 71 balls, but his resistance ended at 77, leaving his team still searching for a competitive total.

Jaker Ali showed great composure and guided Bangladesh past the 200-run mark, getting some valuable support from Rishad Hossain, who chipped in with 26 runs. Jaker played a steady and responsible knock, scoring 45 before unfortunately getting run out in the 49th over. In the end, Bangladesh managed to put up a fighting total of 236 for 9 in their 50 overs. Michael Bracewell was the standout bowler with four wickets, while William O’Rourke provided good support, picking up two.

Latham's Half-Century and Rachin's Ton Knock Bangladesh Out

New Zealand had a rough start while chasing 237, losing Will Young and Kane Williamson early. Taskin Ahmed bowled a brilliant delivery in the first over to dismiss Young, while Nahid Rana got rid of Williamson for just five runs. The early breakthroughs created panic in the Black Caps' camp, while Bangladesh’s pacers kept the pressure on with fiery bowling.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra played an excellent inning. Conway looked in good touch but was out for 30 in the 16th over by Mustafizur Rahman. New Zealand had reached 72 for three.

Despite the early setbacks, Rachin Ravindra scored boundaries easily. He and Tom Latham kept the scoreboard ticking, helping New Zealand closer to the target. Ravindra scored his half-century off just 50 balls, while the Black Caps crossed the 150-run mark in 29.5 overs, putting themselves in a strong position.

With 150 already on the board, the duo of Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham went on to stage a 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket as New Zealand were inching closer to victory. Later, after that, Rachin raced to his century off 95 deliveries with 11 fours and a six by that stage. His fluent innings massively helped the Black Caps in this encounter.

By the 38th over, New Zealand reached 200 runs, but soon after, Ravindra, who was batting well on 112, got out. He tried to go big against Rishad Hossain but was caught at the boundary. With his wicket, New Zealand still needed 36 runs to win at 201.

Following Ravindra, Latham reached his half-century off 76 deliveries but then perished after getting run out by Mahmudullah for 55. With not much required, the duo of Glenn Phillips and Bracewell did the finishing job for New Zealand as they ended the game in the 46.1 over with five wickets in hand.
