Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa Confirm Corbin Bosch as Nortje’s Replacement

Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa Confirm Corbin Bosch as Nortje’s ReplacementBefore the Champions Trophy, South Africa has brought in Corbin Bosch to replace the injured Anrich Nortje. Bosch is now part of the 15-player preliminary squad for the tournament, which kicks off on February 19.

Right now, the South African team is in Pakistan for a Tri-Nation ODI series, using it as a warm-up for the big event. Bosch made his ODI debut last December against Pakistan. Along with him, young players Kwena Maphaka and Toni de Zorzi have been named as traveling reserves. All three will fly to Karachi on Sunday to join the squad for the rest of the Tri-Nation series.

According to an ICC release, “Anrich Nortje, who was ruled out of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 with a back injury, has been replaced by an upcoming fast bowler in South Africa’s 15-member squad. Days after South Africa announced their squad for the tournament, Nortje was forced to withdraw from it owing to a recurring back injury. The Proteas have finally named his replacement in the form of 30-year-old Corbin Bosch, who made his international debut in December last year. He has played just one ODI and a Test so far.”

Bosch had a memorable Test debut against Pakistan, showcasing his skills with both bat and ball. He made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his very first delivery and finished with impressive figures of 4/63. With the bat, he delivered under pressure, scoring an unbeaten 81 while batting at number nine. His crucial knock helped South Africa gain a vital 90-run first innings lead in a thrilling match that was to come.

Despite his excellent recent batting form, Bosch has been selected mostly as a fast bowler. At 30, he's been doing really well with the bat this season, averaging 96 in first-class cricket. But his main skill is fast bowling. In 34 matches, he has taken 72 wickets at an average of 36.75, including one five-wicket haul. His all-round ability remains crucial for providing valuable depth for South Africa's team.
