Bangladesh Announce Squad for Champions Trophy 2025: Shakib and Litton Miss Out

Bangladesh Squad for Champions Trophy 2025The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy which will take place in Pakistan and the UAE. They didn't pick Shakib because he was not able to pass a bowling test in Chennai. They also left out Litton Das, the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman, because of his poor performance in recent matches especially during the tour in the West Indies.

Shakib, who is 37 years old announced his retirement from T20I and Tests. Since he wasn't chosen to be part of the Champions Trophy team, it seems that his amazing career in cricket is probably over now.

Tamim Iqbal Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Najmul Hossain Shanto will be the team captain. After discussing with the BCB selection committee about his availability, the well-known player Tamim Iqbal decided to retire from international cricket just last Friday. Some more notable players who weren't picked into the squad are Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.

Shanto missed the tour of the West Indies due to an injury. He leads Bangladesh in all formats. Senior wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim also missed the tour, but he's returning to handle wicketkeeping duties since Litton won't be there. Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman skipped the Caribbean tour to be with his wife when their child was born. Now, Mustafizur is back with the ODI group, along with Shanto and Mushfiqur.

While Shanto was away, Mehidy Hasan Miraz stepped up as captain for the tests and ODIs against the West Indies, and Litton took charge of the T20I team. The tour to the West Indies had its ups and downs for Bangladesh. They managed a tie in the test series with a 1-1 score but were thoroughly beaten in the ODIs, not winning any of the three games. They bounced back in the T20Is, completing a clean sweep by winning all three matches.
