Bangladesh ahead with 156-run lead after halting Pakistan short of first innings total Bangladesh turned the game on its head by giving Pakistan less than a day to bat in the second innings. Pakistan, who began their batting in the third session of day one, were stopped 46 runs short of Bangladesh’s first-innings total. The pacers shared eight wickets between them, with Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam grabbing three each while Taskin Ahmed dismissed two batters.

Taskin drew first blood by sending Abdullah Fazal, who was promoted to the opening role with Babar Azam’s inclusion, packing. The pacer then got his partner and the centurion from the last game, Azan Awais, quickly as well, leaving Pakistan in a spot of bother. Babar Azam’s 68-run innings, alongside varying batting partners as Pakistan’s batters kept departing, helped the visitors inch closer to the lead.

By the tea break, Pakistan were reeling at 206/8 with tailenders Sajid Khan and Khurram Shahzad on the crease. Sajid chipped in with a quick cameo, scoring 38 runs off 28 balls to take Pakistan’s innings total to 232. But that was it for the visitors, who walked back disappointed after a decent shot at stitching together a partnership.

Bangladesh strengthen grip late in the day

Bangladesh’s batters decided to grab the chance with both hands, despite losing one of their openers in just the fourth over. But Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque, riding on the lead they were able to salvage from the previous innings, steered the hosts past 100 runs. Khurram Shahzad, who was given the ball to bowl the last over of the day, got a wicket with his fourth delivery, inducing an early two-ball stumps.
