Naqvi unlikely to travel to India for upcoming ICC meeting

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is unlikely to travel to India for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting, reports suggest.

Naqvi to join virtually

Naqvi was earlier reportedly invited to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) final in Ahmedabad. However, newer reports reveal that the PCB chairman was invited for the ICC meeting rather than the final.

In either case, Naqvi is set to not travel to India and instead join the meeting virtually. In fact, the meeting itself could be held entirely online.

The ICC will hold a series of meetings from May 21 to May 31. The meetings, which are understood to cover women’s cricket and commercial matters, include the Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) as well as two-day board meetings in Ahmedabad.

Meeting agenda

The reports also reveal that discussions on men’s cricket, as well as any talks regarding a structural revamp of the World Test Championship (WTC), are unlikely to take place. The ICC is expected to introduce reforms to the existing WTC framework, including expanding the tournament to 12 teams and including one-off Test matches as part of the competition.

The agenda does, however, include exploring opportunities for data monetisation as well as introducing mobile gaming.
