AUS vs SA ODI Series 2025: Series Winner, Top Run-Scorers & Leading Wicket-Takers

AUS vs SA ODI Series 2025: Series Winner, Top Run-Scorers & Leading Wicket-TakersAustralia crushed South Africa by 276 runs in Mackay, handing them their biggest-ever ODI defeat and sealing the series 2-1. This smashed South Africa’s previous record loss of 243 runs to India in Kolkata back in 2023. Australia’s huge total was thanks to brilliant performances from Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green and young Cooper Connolly. Head scored 142 off 103 balls, Marsh made a steady 100 and Green smashed an unbeaten 118 from just 55 balls.

Together, they helped Australia score 431 for 2 giving them their second-biggest win in ODI cricket. The only bigger win was by 309 runs against the Netherlands in the 2023 World Cup at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. Later, Connolly did really well with the ball taking 5 wickets for 22 runs and finished the match easily for Australia.

Australia started strong with a 250-run opening partnership between Head and Marsh with Head hitting 17 fours and five sixes and Marsh scoring a steady century. Green then blasted a 47-ball hundred, while Carey added a quick 50 helping Australia reach over 430. With such a big total, Connolly’s left-arm spin took key South African wickets making sure their chase never got going.

South Africa got off to a poor start while chasing losing WTC hero Aiden Markram in just the second over. Things got worse when Ryan Rickelton was out in the fifth over leaving them in trouble. By the 14th over, after Tony de Zorzi’s wicket, they had lost half their team for only 107 runs. Dewald Brevis tried to fight back and shift the momentum, but he too was dismissed in the 18th over by Cooper Connolly. In the end, South Africa were bowled out for just 155 runs.
