AUS vs ENG 1st Ashes Test: Travis Head Scores 123, Australia Wins by 8 Wickets in First Two-Day Ashes

The result of the first Ashes Test between Australia and England was decided in just two days. Hosts Australia won by a resounding eight wickets in Perth on Saturday. Amidst the collapse of wickets, Tavis Head's blistering century devastated England.

Australia chased down the target of 205 runs in 28.2 overs for the loss of two wickets. Head, coming in as an opener, scored 123 runs from 83 balls, hitting 16 fours and four sixes. Head reached his tenth Test century in 69 balls, making it the joint fifth-fastest century in Test history.

Australia Crushes England in Two-Day Ashes Thriller; Travis Head Scores Blistering 123

Chasing the target, Australia got off to a good start. Head and Jake Weatherald (23 from 34 balls) added 75 runs for the first wicket. Brydon Carse dismissed Weatherald in the 12th over. Head then dashed England's hopes with a 117-run partnership for the second wicket with Marnus Labuschagne.

Carse dismissed Head in the 27th over. Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 51 off 49 balls, which included six fours and a six. Acting captain S Smith remained unbeaten on two runs off four balls.

19 wickets fell on the first day of the Perth Test, while 13 wickets fell on the second day. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc was adjudged the Player of the Match. He took a total of 10 wickets. Starc took seven wickets in the first innings and three in the second innings.

Australia bundled out England for 164 runs in 34.4 overs in the second innings. The visiting team had gained a lead of 40 runs after scoring 172 runs in the first innings, but due to the surrender of its batsmen in the second innings, it had to face defeat. Australia's first innings was bundled out for 132 runs.
