Assam Cricket Association Suspends Four Players Over Corruption Allegations Linked to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025

Four players were suspended for violation of anti-corruption rules on Thursday by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), following allegations of corruption concerning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 and attempts to corrupt players from the Assam cricket team who participated in the recently concluded tournament in Lucknow between November 26 - December 08.

On Friday, ACA Secretary Sanatan Das stated that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed with the Crime Branch located in Guwahati regarding these allegations, while also adding that the Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) of the BCCI had also conducted a preliminary investigation into this matter. The ACA believes it has ample evidence against the players who engaged in this activity that threatens the integrity of cricket.

Abhishek Thakuri, who has played in two Ranji Trophy matches for Assam during this current season, is the most prominent name among those who were suspended. Other individuals listed as suspended also played for Assam at various domestic cricket levels.

“The Assam Cricket Association has suspended four players, Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri, with immediate effect after allegations emerged that they were involved in corrupt practices relating to the game of cricket. The above four players, who have represented Assam at various stages, are accused of influencing and attempting to instigate some of the current Assam team players, who took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8,” a press release from ACA read.

The temporary suspension of the individuals mentioned above will continue to be enforced until the ACA has finalized its investigation into their actions or a new directive has been issued. During this time, they cannot participate in any State Level Cricket Tournaments sanctioned by the ACA and all ACA District Areas and all ACA Affiliated Clubs and will not be permitted to coach from, officiate in or play any other role in the game of Cricket during this time.
