After Five Months of Underperformance by Coach Gambhir, BCCI is concerned about the test team's future under him.

It's been five months since Gambhir was chosen as the full-time Head Coach of India's men's Cricket team, but he has yet to deliver the desired results. After historical defeats and a series of defeats in India, Gambhir's future as India's head coach hung on team performance in Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
KKR responsibility
Gautam Gambhir, who was given the responsibility of mentoring the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders for the next 10 years by KKR owner Shahrukh Khan, left the position after India's Head Coach Offer. Gambhir did deliver the results in his successful stunt at KKR, making them the Team champion at IPL 2024, winning their third title since the last one from 2014. It was expected that Gambhir would prove as a good head coach of Team India and continue its legacy.

Test numbers Need to be Improved.
However, the results have yet to be delivered to the nation in the test and ODI formats. In the T20, he has given exceptional results. India has won 9 out of 10 T20Is under him. On the other hand, India lost 2 out of 3 one-day internationals, and one got tied, which was concerning because it was the first time in 27 years that Sri Lanka defeated India in one-day internationals in India.
Under his guidance, India lost four of the seven test matches in test cricket. Though the team won two tests against Bangladesh, it lost to New Zealand by 3-0, a historic clean sweep for the team in India. One thing that went against him was the fact that India lost a test series at home after 12 years.
More concerns were raised when the senior members of the team had different views about certain decisions in the New Zealand series. Captain Rohit Sharma also noted that Gambhir's coaching approach differs from Rahul Dravid's, which focuses on aggressive cricket and a result-oriented mindset.
The way Forward
After six-hour meetings in the aftermath of the series loss against New Zealand, there were reports that Gambhir's future as test coach depends upon the Border Gavaskar series performance. If India loses more than three test matches in the series, BCCI might take strict action.
Gambhir's unconventional decisions have always been watched by cricket pandits, who have criticised his style at various times. One instance is when he sent Mohammad Siraj as a Night Watchmen estate of Sarfaraz Khan, which faced severe criticism.

While India has already lost the second test of the series in Australia, it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
