United States of America National Cricket Team

The United States of America National Cricket Team, governed by USA Cricket, represents the USA in international cricket. As one of the fastest-growing cricketing nations outside the traditional strongholds, the team has made significant strides in recent years, particularly after gaining ODI status in 2019. The team competes in ICC events such as the Cricket World Cup League 2 and has hosted international fixtures to boost the sport’s popularity across the country. With a blend of domestic talent and players of diverse international backgrounds, the USA team symbolizes the global nature of cricket and its expanding presence in North America. As the sport continues to grow in the U.S., the national team is seen as a key driver for cricket’s development, especially following the successful hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches on American soil.

About The United States

The United States men’s national cricket team represents the country of USA in international cricket. Governed by the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA), the team gained International Cricket Council (ICC) associate membership in 1965. However, in 2017 the ICC expelled USACA due to issues with governance and financing. As a result, ICC Americas temporarily oversaw the U.S. team until USA Cricket was granted associate membership in 2019.
The United States fielded its first representative team against Canada in 1844 in the inaugural international cricket match. For the next century and a half, the national team infrequently competed against other countries, playing predominantly against Canada for the annual Auty Cup or against visiting foreign teams.
Cricket was popular in the British colonies in America during the early 18th century. The sport grew further in popularity throughout the 1700s. There is anecdotal evidence that George Washington strongly supported cricket, even playing a game with his troops at Valley Forge during the Revolution. John Adams noted in Congress that if cricket club leaders were called “presidents,” there was no reason the U.S. leader could not have the same title.
In 1844, the U.S. participated in the first international cricket match against Canada at Bloomingdale Park in New York. The event drew 20,000 spectators, establishing a long-running international sports rivalry. Around $120,000 was wagered on the match outcome, equivalent to $1.5 million today.
