Yashasvi Jaiswal Likely to Be Part of India’s Champions Trophy Squad: Reports

Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to be called up into the Indian cricket squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. The young opener has been building his reputation with every series that he has played. This has put him in good standing to be in the team that will travel to Dubai in February despite his ability to adapt his game to any format, including the Tests where he can be very conservative.

As per the report in RevSportz, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be traveling as a backup for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Last year, the 23-year-old was not able to make it to India’s ODI World Cup squad where Ishan Kishan was preferred over him. Kishan even got a chance to play some matches when Shubman Gill was ruled out of the team due to dengue.

If Jaiswal is named in the ICC Champions Trophy squad then he is also expected to be a part of the India vs England ODI series which is scheduled to begin on 6th February, which is exactly 13 days before the eight-team tournament which will be held in Karachi. Jaiswal may get his ODI debut in this series although he has made his T20I and Test debut in 2023.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s List A stats are quite impressive, it is only a matter of time before he will make his ODI debut for Team India. But since the ODI World Cup 2023, India has played only two 50-over matches out of which one was washed out and Jaiswal couldn’t get a chance. And it looks like his turn has come at last.

Another name that has been suggested includes Nitish Kumar Reddy. Similar to Jaiswal, the all-rounder has made his test and T20I debut; however, it was only a few months ago. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also not very clear on where he stands in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. If nominated, Reddy would join as a replacement for Hardik Pandya but he would not make the cut for the top 15 players and would only be included in the stand-by list.
