WTC Final: Complete List of Match Officials, Umpires and Match Referee Included

The excitement is increasing as the dates of the World Test Championship 2025 final are getting closer, and the final will be played between the two teams that performed exceptionally well in the last 2 years. On one side, we will have South Africa, which will be making its first appearance in the WTC Final, while on the other side, we will have the defending champion, Australia. The match will be played from 11th June to 15th June, and this article will discuss all the umpires and match officials for this match.

Umpires for the WTC 2025 Final 

On-Field Umpires

For the WTC 2025 Final, ICC has named Richard Illingworth and Chris Gaffaney as the official on-field umpires for the match. Both umpires have vast experience and will play a crucial role in the final. Illingworth, who is currently the ICC umpire of the year, will set a record for being the on-field Umpire in all three finals in the World Test Championship history. On the other hand, Chris, the second on-field umpire, was part of the umpiring team in the last WTC final and the recent T20 World Cup final. Both umpires started their test umpiring career in 2014 and have been umpiring well over the last decade. They are currently regarded as one of the most respected and accurate umpires in test cricket. Given these records, the duo becomes the ideal choice for a high-stakes match like this.

Third Umpire 

You will be wondering who will be the third umpire in this match and the answer is, another England veteran and renowned umpire Richard Kettleborough, With the increasing use of DRS these days the third umpire choice becomes a crucial one as he will be the one who can affect big decisions and can often come into the controversies for wrong decision. Richard has been umpiring in the big matches in various ICC tournaments, including the recent T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup. In the first WTC Finals in 2021, he also performed the third umpire duties.

Fourth(Reserve) Umpire

Nitin Menon from India will be the fourth Umpire in this match and will act as a backup or reserve umpire for this test match. Nitin is the only Indian umpire in the ICC panel and will perform the role in the WTC final for the first time.

Match Referee

For their WTC 2025 Final, India's Javagal Srinath will be the Match Referee. A match referee's job is not easy. Hence, the ICC chose Srinath, who has performed duties as a match referee in many international matches in the past. He has also been involved in various knockout matches in ICC tournaments recently.
