WTC 2025: Updated Standings After League Stage
Australia finished their World Test Championship league stage in style with a commanding 9-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second Test at Galle on February 9. Chasing a target of just 75 runs after Sri Lanka lost their final two wickets early on Day 4, the Australians polished off the target in just 17.4 overs. Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne played stellar knocks, guiding Australia to their first series win in Sri Lanka since 2011.
Australia won the first Test, pushing their win percentage in the World Test Championship standings to 67.54%. This put them in second place, after South Africa, who are in first with a win percentage of 69.44%.
Sri Lanka, the whitewash in the series against Australia. The team ended their WTC cycle in sixth place, just after England. Their win percentage dropped from 41.67% to 38.46%, showing just how tough the last couple of years have been for them.
Sri Lanka won 2-0 at home against New Zealand, but they also faced big losses to Pakistan and Australia, showing that they are having a tough time, especially when playing at home.
Australia had cemented their spot in the final after the thumping 3-1 Border-Gavaskar series triumph at home in early 2025. The defending champions are on the brink of making history, with a chance to win the prestigious Mace for the second consecutive time. They'll go head-to-head with South Africa in the final at Lord’s this June 2025.
