WTC 2023-25 Points Table Updated After Australia’s 184-Run Win Over India in 4th Test

WTC 2023-25 Points Table Updated After Australia’s 184-Run Win Over India in 4th Test

Australia, with Pat Cummins as their captain, secured a massive win of 184 runs against India on Monday, during the fourth test in the five-match series, which occurred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. They scored 234 runs in their second innings, putting forth a tough score of 340 runs for India to chase in 92 overs. But, Rohit Sharma's team could not succeed, only scoring 155 runs in their attempt, and that took 79.1 overs on the last day.

India just had their No. 3 spot in the World Test Championship points table for 2023-25 stay the same, even though they lost to Australia in the Boxing Day Test for the first time in 12 years; their points percentage dipped from 55.88 to 52.78, though. On the other side, Australia, which already won twice in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, saw their points percentage jump from 58.89 to 61.46. Still, they're holding to their second place on the table.

Temba Bavuma's team secured their ticket for the WTC 2025 Championship Match by beating Pakistan in their first-match showdown, winning by two wickets at SuperSport Park, Centurion; this victory secured their spot in the Final. Set to take place from June 11 to 15 next year at Lord's, South Africa is now the leader in the WTC 2023-25 rankings with a winning rate of 66.67%.

South Africa could be the best if they beat Pakistan in the second test happening from January 3-7, 2025, at Cape Town's Newlands. But, if Australia does not win a game in any of their last three tests, that might change the order of the rankings.

India’s Path to the WTC Final: A Challenging Road Ahead

Australia's cricket team will visit Sri Lanka for two games immediately after they play against India in the New Year Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7, 2025; the matches in Sri Lanka will be at the Galle International Stadium; they have one match starting from January 29 to February 2, and immediately after that, another one from February 6 to 10, at the end of January and the beginning of February.

India needs to beat Australia in Sydney and also wants Sri Lanka to win all their games against Australia if they want to make it to the finals and play against South Africa in the WTC 2023-25, to be the team just below the best one.
