WPL 2025 Points Table: Latest Standings After RCB vs UPW Clash

WPL 2025 Points Table: Latest Standings After RCB vs UPW ClashRoyal Challengers Bengaluru, the defending champions, were ready for Chinelle Henry’s big-hitting. But it was Sophie Ecclestone who turned out to be the unexpected hero, proving why she is the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler. In a thrilling Women’s Premier League (WPL) match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, UP Warriorz defeated RCB in the tournament’s first-ever Super Over, winning by four runs on Monday. Ecclestone’s outstanding bowling stopped Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana, securing her team’s second victory of the season.

Earlier, while chasing 181, UP Warriorz needed 18 runs off the last over to tie the game. English all-rounder Ecclestone (33 off 19) smashed Renuka Singh for two sixes and a four. Though she was run out on the final ball, she made sure her team stayed in the game. Openers Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh gave UP Warriorz a strong start, scoring nearly 10 runs per over. Kiran’s quickfire 24 off 12 balls was cut short when Renuka struck early, also dismissing Vrinda soon after.

Sneh Rana had a dream start for RCB, taking two wickets within the first 10 overs. She dismissed opposition captain Deepti Sharma (25 off 13) and Tahlia McGrath, putting her team in a strong position. By the eighth over, UPW was 72 for four. Although the required run rate was still under control, wickets kept falling. The middle order struggled once again, except for Shweta Sehrawat, who fought hard with a 25-ball 31.

Ellyse Perry got rid of Shweta after Grace Harris and Uma Chetry had already fallen cheaply to Kim Garth and Sneh Rana, respectively. The final blow came in the 17th over when Garth dismissed Henry, as the West Indian all-rounder dragged one onto her stumps while attempting a pull shot.

Earlier, RCB batted first on a fresh pitch with even grass coverage. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge started cautiously, struggling to find their rhythm. Deepti Sharma continued her dominance over Smriti, dismissing her for the third time in WPL history. A good-length off-spin delivery, which barely turned, took a slight inside edge and went on to hit the stumps.

The Warriorz improved a lot in the field, but Shweta dropped a catch in the second over, giving Wyatt-Hodge a new lease of life. At the halfway point, RCB had made 67/1 in the powerplay in 6 overs. In the middle overs, Perry and Wyatt-Hodge increased the run rate and in the 11th to 14th, they scored 48 runs. Both of them got fifty over 36 balls and formed a decent 94/2 partnership.

However, McGrath stopped them in their tracks by dismissing Wyatt-Hodge, who had made 57 off 41 balls. This time, Shweta atoned for her earlier error by making a good catch. Perry, who remained not out on 90 (her highest score), failed to receive any kind of assistance from Richa, Kanika Ahuja, and Georgia Wareham as they were dismissed cheaply. However, the Australian all-rounder did her best to control the ship for RCB, and in the end, it was not enough.
