Delhi Capitals moved to the top of the WPL 2025 points table, taking the spot from Mumbai Indians, who they easily defeated by nine wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This was the Capitals' second win against the first-season champions this year, set up by great bowling led by the experienced Jess Jonassen, who took three wickets for the sixth time in WPL history.

On a well-known good batting pitch, Mumbai Indians were limited to just 123 runs before a quick 85-run opening stand between Meg Lanning (60* off 49) and Shafali (43 off 28) made the result clear. The Capitals won with 33 balls left, giving a big boost to their Net Run Rate. Mumbai Indians had not lost a match at this ground this season before this important game but had to find a new way to win after being asked to bat first. The game started well when Yastika Bhatia hit the first ball from Marizanne Kapp for a four. Without taking too many chances, Bhatia and Hayley Matthews gave Mumbai a strong start, with Matthews hitting four fours.

All that changed in the last over of the PowerPlay when Shikha Pandey bowled a maiden wicket over, getting rid of the out-of-form Bhatia, who scored only 11 off 35 balls. Surprisingly, that was still the team's highest opening partnership. Mumbai suffered another big blow in the next over when Annabel Sutherland dismissed Matthews.

Harmanpreet Kaur started with a lucky edged four off Titas Sadhu but then steadied Mumbai's innings with Nat Sciver-Brunt. The pair smashed 18 runs in the 10th over bowled by Sadhu, showing they were ready to accelerate. But then Jonassen returned to bowl and completely changed the game.

Jonassen first removed Harmanpreet with a straight delivery that the Mumbai captain missed while trying to play to the leg side. DRS could not save her. In her third over, she bowled a well-flighted ball that dipped on Sciver-Brunt, who chipped it back for an easy catch. Mumbai couldn't recover from those quick losses and collapsed further as Minnu Mani dismissed S Sajana and Amelia Kerr in the same over. Kerr fell to an outstanding catch in the deep by Sutherland. Mumbai lost 5 wickets for 23 runs and finished with 123/9.

The total was never going to trouble Delhi, and their openers made sure of that by wiping out any doubts by the halfway mark. Lanning started with two boundaries in the first over off Shabnim Ismail. In the third over, Verma attacked Sciver-Brunt, pulling a massive six and hitting two more fours in a 16-run over. By the end of the PowerPlay, Delhi had 57 runs, with Lanning and Verma registering their 11th 50-run stand the most by any pair.

Verma took charge, smashing two more sixes off Kerr before finally getting out in the 10th over to Amanjot Kaur. From there, it was an easy chase for the Capitals, and their captain made sure of it by scoring her eighth half-century of the tournament and staying unbeaten to take the team to victory.
