With Champions Trophy in Mind, South Africa Names Strongest Squad Since World Cup 2023

With Champions Trophy in Mind, South Africa Names Strongest Squad  Since World Cup 2023

The South African team has released a 15-player squad for the upcoming one-day international series against Pakistan at home. Several key players are returning to the team after a long absence.

Players like Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, and Heinrich Klassen will return to the team after a long period. Rabada was seen in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for the last time, while Klassen and Miller were seen for the last time in December 2023.

As the Champions Trophy approaches, the team focuses on a one-day format. Captain Temba Bavuma has also returned to the team after the elbow injury.

Kwena Maphaka in the ODI Series

Young pacer Kwena Maphaka was named in the ODI squad for the first time. The 19-year-old pacer was recently added to the Test squad after multiple injuries in the team. He had already appeared in the T20 International, while in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, he took 21 wickets and became the Player of the Tournament.

Ottneil Baartman is the pace department's one of the key bowler alongside all-rounders Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo. However, Anrich Nortje is missing the series due to a toe injury.

It's a strong outfit. The team has been pictured with the Champions Trophy in mind, sad South Africa's limited over coach Rob Walter.

The team will play 3 ODI in the series,

  • 17 December, 1st ODI, Paarl
  • 19 December, 2nd ODI, Cape Town
  • 22 December, 3rd ODI, Johannesburg

Key players like Tristian Stubbs, who scored a century in the recent test series, and Keshav Maharaj, who took a five-wicket haul in the last innings of the second test match, are also part of the team.

Anrich Nortje, who is ruled off the ODI series due to the injury, told.

"We have named our strongest squad available, with each Player capable of being a match-winner on their day, and we are incredibly excited to see how this group performs together."

"We are very pleased with this squad. This series will be crucial in fine-tuning our combinations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy next year, and we are looking forward to the challenge."

Squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Ottneil Baartman, Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen
