ICC has already announced that the top 8 from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 group stage will qualify for the tournament.

Sri Lanka ended at ninth in the group stage. It won only two of the nine matches it played in the tournament, one of its worst performances in the ODI World Cup. 

The other news related to Sri Lanka is two Sri Lankan players, Kushal Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga, have been nominated for ICC ODI Player of the Year.

Hasaranga, who is the bowling all-rounder, has been performing consistently and took wickets all over the year. He took 11 wickets In just the first three matches of the year. His best performance of the year was 7-19 against Zimbabwe in Colombo.

Kusal Mendis,wicketkeeper-batsman, has displayed fabulous consistency with his bat this year. He has scored half-centuries against six different opponents. He also notched a century against New Zealand with 143 in Dambulla. He maintained an average of over 50 while also dismissing 19 batters behind the stumps.
