What is ‘Golden Bail’ in the Pakistan Super League?

Pakistan Super League (PSL) has introduced a ‘Golden Bail’ to award the winner of the twin-city derby between Rawalpindiz and Islamabad United. The two teams, representing twin cities, played their first derby game on Saturday. The team winning the game would clinch the bail until the next game.

“A Golden Bail from Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is on the line. The winner of the Twin Cities derby takes it, along with the bragging rights. The Golden Bail will stay with the winner of the derby until their next clash,” the league announced via a social media post.

Islamabad’s biggest win

The first derby game was won convincingly by Islamabad United, who downed Rawalpindiz by seven wickets. This was also their biggest winning margin in terms of balls remaining since 2021. Coming in to bat first, the debutant franchise set a 156-run target, thanks largely to a late-innings cameo by Dian Forrester, who scored 44 off just 19 balls. 

In response, Islamabad lost their first wicket within the powerplay. However, everything after that hit the right notes. Sameer Minhas notched up a 36-ball 70 to do the bulk of the task.

Islamabad take the golden bail

Winning the game, Islamabad’s captain Shadab Khan was handed the Golden Bail, which he will retain until the next game between the two teams. 

Both teams will play their next game on April 23 at National Bank Stadium, Karachi. This will be Rawalpindiz second-last group stage game of the season. Currently, they occupy seventh place with three defeats in three games.
