Watch: Ashwin's Heated Argument With Umpire After Controversial LBW in DD vs TT Match

Dinigul Dragons captaind Ravichandran Ashwin wasn’t happy with the umpire’s decision after being given out LBW, even though the ball from left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore seemed to land outside the off stump. Ashwin, playing just his second match in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 had a few words with on-field umpire Venkatesan Krithika, but she stuck to her call and didn’t change her mind even for the experienced former India all-rounder.

The incident occurred in the fifth over of the innings. Ashwin was batting on 18 when he attempted a sweep shot but missed the ball. Thinking there was a chance for a single as the ball rolled towards short fine leg, he started to run but the umpire quickly raised her finger for LBW. With no DRS available to review the decision Ashwin had no choice but to walk off the field clearly unhappy. On his way back, he even tapped his pad with the bat in frustration.

Ashwin Struggles With Bat and Ball

Ashwin made a quick 18 off just 11 balls hitting two fours and a six. After his dismissal, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans skipper Sai Kishore also sent back Shivam Singh, who scored 30 from 27 balls with four boundaries and a six. From a solid start at 61/1, Dindigul Dragons collapsed dramatically and were all out for just 93 runs in 16.2 overs. Apart from Ashwin and Shivam, only R K Jayant managed to get into double figures. Esakkimuthu A was the star with the ball taking four wickets, while Mathivannan picked up three.

Ashwin couldn’t do much to defend the small total. The only bright moment for Dindigul Dragons came when Ganeshan Periyaswamy got the wicket of Amit Sathvik in the fourth over. After that, it was all one-way traffic. Opener Tushar Raheja went all guns blazing smashing five sixes and six fours on his way to an unbeaten 65 off just 39 balls. At the other end, S Radhakrishnan stayed not out on 14 from 21 balls. Ashwin had a tough day with the ball too giving away 28 runs in just two overs. Varun Chakravarthy also went wicketless conceding 25 runs. IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans chased down the target easily winning with nine wickets in hand and 49 balls to spare.

This was Dindigul Dragons first loss of the TNPL 2025 season. In their opening match, Shivam had powered them to victory with a brilliant unbeaten 82 off 50 balls against Lyca Kovai Kings, while Ashwin chipped in with two wickets. Their next match is scheduled for June 14 against Siechem Madurai Panthers at the SCG Cricket Ground in Salem.
