Ravichandran Ashwin Set to Feature in Hong Kong Sixes 2025 After IPL Farewell

Ravichandran Ashwin Set to Feature in Hong Kong Sixes 2025 After IPL FarewellRavichandran Ashwin, after saying goodbye to the IPL, is all set to play in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, Cricket Hong Kong, China announced on Thursday. The fun and fast six-a-side event will be played from November 7 to 9. At 39, Ashwin still carries the same class, experience, and charm that made him one of India’s biggest match-winners, and his presence adds extra shine to the tournament. A total of 12 teams will take part, and the organisers said the names of other Indian players will be shared soon.

"We are proud to welcome Ashwin to the Hong Kong Sixes 2025. His presence in Team India elevates the tournament to an even higher level, bringing one of the finest cricketing minds and performers of this era to Hong Kong. The Sixes is about innovation, entertainment and world-class talent, and Ashwin embodies all of these qualities. We are confident that fans will be treated to a spectacular show of cricket," Burji Shroff, chairperson of Hong Kong Cricket, said.

"We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part of. This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane which I am looking forward to playing alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us." Ashwin said.

A Legendary Career in International Cricket

Ashwin started his IPL journey in 2009 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and fittingly ended it in 2025 with the same team though he didn’t get many chances in his final season. Over the years, he played 221 matches and took 187 wickets, which makes him the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He also kept things tight with an impressive economy rate of 7.2.

Ashwin won two IPL titles with CSK in 2010 and 2011 and was also named player of the tournament in the Champions League T20 in 2010. Apart from CSK, he played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He missed the 2017 season due to injury but came back strongly in different team colours before returning to CSK in his final year.

Outside the IPL, Ashwin made a huge impact in Indian cricket. He retired from international cricket in December 2024 with 537 Test wickets, the second-highest for India after Anil Kumble. He also picked up 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 in T20Is. Since his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011, where he took nine wickets and won player of the match, Ashwin went on to claim eight 10-wicket hauls and scored six centuries in 106 Tests. His last international outing came on the 2024-25 tour of Australia, while his final T20I was in November 2022.
