Wasim Akram Faces Investigation Over Alleged Endorsement of Betting App

Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has landed in controversy after being accused of promoting an online betting and gambling app. A complaint has been officially filed in Lahore, and authorities have confirmed that the matter is being investigated under the Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
Complaint Filed with NCCIA
The complaint was lodged by Muhammad Faiz, who approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore. He alleged that Akram acted as a brand ambassador for a foreign betting platform named Baji. Faiz also demanded strict legal action against the legendary fast bowler.
According to the complainant, a poster and video clip circulating on social media clearly show Akram endorsing the app, which has reportedly attracted users to the platform. An NCCIA official confirmed to PTI that the complaint has been received and stated:
“We will take action against Wasim Akram if the allegations are proven true.”
The evidence that is circulating in online also points towards Akram's alleged involvement, but the former cricketer has not released any official statement.
Related Arrest in the Same Case
Interestingly, this is not the first controversy linked to the same app. On August 16, popular TikToker and YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman, famously known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested for promoting the same gambling platform.
Despite the current controversy, Akram remains one of Pakistan’s greatest cricketers. Across a glittering career, he represented Pakistan in 104 Tests and 356 ODIs, taking 414 Test wickets and 502 ODI wickets.
