After the 74 exciting matches, the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is now coming to completion, and this season has witnessed various thrilling matches and performance. On one side, we have seen experienced players who were acquired for high prices did not perform well, while on the other side, we have also observed players who didn't attract much attention at the auction table but performed well on the field. Today, in this article, we will discuss ten players who were acquired at a low bid but performed admirably for their teams.
Mitchell Marsh
The first player in our list, who performed well for his team despite being acquired at a low price, is Mitchell Marsh. The experienced Australian all-rounder, who played for the Lucknow SuperGiants as a pure batter, performed exceptionally well, scoring over 500 runs after being picked at a bid of Rs. 3.4 Crore. In the thirteen matches played, he scored 627 runs at a strike rate of 188.97 and an average of 34.29.
Ayush Mhatre
The next player on our list is 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who played as an opener for Chennai Super Kings in the second half of the season after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured. He was acquired by CSK for rupees 70 lakhs. This season, he also became the third youngest player to score a half-century in IPL history, scoring one of the finest knocks (94 off 48) against RCB. In the 13 matches played, he scored 301 runs at a strike rate of 160.52 and an average of 32.29.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Another player who impressed everyone this season was Vaibhav Suryavanshi of the Rajasthan Royals. Vaibhav, from Bihar, was picked by the Rajasthan Royals for 1.1 crore in the auction due to his performance in domestic cricket. While many were expecting that he wouldn't even get a chance in the playing eleven, Vaibhav caught the opportunity and impressed everyone with his performance. The monumental moment came when he scored an outstanding century against the Gujarat Titans in just 35 balls, marking one of the first centuries in the IPL. In the seven matches played, he scored 252 runs at a strike rate of 205.55, along with an average of 36.00.
Dewald Brevis
Dewald Bravis is the next player on our list. Dewald, a South African batter, is often called the next AB de Villiers or Baby AB. While initially acquired for just 2.2 crore, he made a big name for himself with his performance throughout the season. Despite receiving fewer chances in his matches, he performed well. In the six games played, he scored 225 runs at a strike rate of 180.00 and an average of 37.50.
Digvesh Rathi
Digvesh Rathi is another player who, after being acquired for just rupees 30 lacs by Lucknow Super Giants, made a big name in the Indian household with his performance and behaviour in the Indian Premier League. Despite getting into the LimeLight for his celebrations and verbal fights, he also performed well with the ball, becoming the highest wicket-taker for the team.
Vipraj Nigam
Vipraj Nigam, a 20-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh, was acquired by Delhi Capitals for rupees 15 lakhs in the IPL 2025 auction. The young all-rounder performed well for Delhi Capitals, not just with the ball but also with the bat. Vipraj, in the season, bowled some key spells in the middle overs while also playing some crucial knocks in those matches. In the thirteen games played, he took 14 wickets and became the team’s highest wicket-taker.
Jaydev Unadkat
The next player on our list is Sunrisers Hyderabad's pacer Jaydev Undakat, who was acquired by SRH for just one crore. His immense experience and control over the ball proved crucial for SRH this season, and he became a key part of the SRH bowling attack in the second half of the season, where the team won most of its matches. In the seven games played, he took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.34.
Aiden Markram
The former South African captain, Aiden Markram, became the key batter in the Lucknow Super Giants' top order this season. LSG acquired Aiden for just two crore in the IPL 2025 auction. His calm approach and ability to rotate the strike have become crucial for the team. In the 13 matches played, he scored 445 runs at a strike rate of 148.82, with an average of 34.23.
Aniket Verma
The young Aniket Verma, acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for just 30 lakhs, performed very well for the team this season, contributing with both bat and ball whenever he got the opportunity. The skills and abilities he showed this season will make SRH want to retain him for the next season.
Ashwani Kumar
Another player who impressed this year with his performance despite being an affordable pick was Ashwani Kumar of the Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians acquired Ashwani for just 30 lacs in the IPL 2025 auction. Despite becoming one of the key bowlers for MI in the latter part of the season, Ashwani Kumar showcased his talent alongside the Mumbai Indians' lethal pace lineup.
Some more players impressed with their performances in the season, though they didn't attract much attention at the auction table. Whether it is Priyansh Arya of Punjab Kings, Ajinkya Rahane of Kolkata Knight Riders, R Sai Kishore of Gujarat Titans, or Ehsan Malinga of Sunrisers Hyderabad, every one of these players also performed very well, despite being acquired at a low cost.
