Tareen among the qualified bidders for Multan Sultans

Pakistan Super League (PSL) has revealed the qualified bidders for the Multan Sultans auction, set to take place on February 9. The PCB had earlier announced that six bidders submitted proposals to participate in the auction, out of which five qualified following the technical evaluation.

Three bidders return for the auction

Walee Technologies, a financial and marketing technology company, Deharki Sugar Mills (DSM), and AIM Next, a Miami-based company, are among the qualified bidders. All three had also been a part of the auction for the two new franchises last month, though DSM pulled out without bidding.

DSM is owned by the Tareen Family, who were previously managing the franchise primarily through Ali Tareen. Having earlier relinquished ownership rights for Multan, Tareen confirmed a day earlier that he will be a part of the auction through DSM, though he said the company will not go all out to secure the franchise.

The newcomers

The remaining bidders include Particle Igniter, a Saudi Arabia-based company, which will be joined by its partner Tweaker Energy. The fifth bidder is CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, made solely for the acquisition of Multan Sultans through the auction.

For context, the PCB decided to put Multan up for auction after having decided to run the franchise in-house for the upcoming PSL season. It is understood that the reversal was influenced mainly by the record-breaking prices fetched by the two new PSL franchises, Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen.
