Sylhet Dominates as Dhaka Metropolis Crumbles: NCL Highlights

Sylhet Dominates as Dhaka Metropolis Crumbles: NCL Highlights

In a commanding display of cricketing prowess, Sylhet Division reaffirmed their top position in the National Cricket League (NCL) by overpowering Dhaka Metropolis with an innings and 139-run victory. This decisive win marked Sylhet's fourth triumph by an innings in their first-class cricket history and their third such victory this season. The match, which concluded swiftly in just under three days, underscored Sylhet's formidable form.

Dhaka Metropolis struggled from the outset, being dismissed for a paltry 130 runs in their first innings. Leading the assault was spinner Nasum Ahmed, who recently showcased his skills in the ODI series against Afghanistan, claiming four crucial wickets. Supporting Ahmed, fast bowlers Rejaur Rahman Raja and Khaled Ahmed each took three wickets, dismantling Dhaka's batting lineup with precision.

Sylhet's response was robust, thanks in large part to an impressive century by Amite Hasan. Batting through four-and-a-half hours, Hasan crafted a meticulous 101, embellished with 13 boundaries, propelling Sylhet to an imposing total of 376. With a substantial lead in hand, Sylhet's bowlers once again wreaked havoc, dismissing Dhaka for a mere 107 runs in their second innings. Khaled Ahmed spearheaded the attack with a five-wicket haul, while Raja added another three wickets to his tally.

In another match, Dhaka Division secured a significant victory over Khulna Division by nine wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. This match held additional significance as it marked the farewell red-ball appearance for Imrul Kayes, who announced his retirement from Tests and first-class cricket. Despite hopes for a fitting send-off, Khulna faltered, bowled out for 172 on the opening day. Fast bowler Sumon Khan was instrumental, taking six wickets, with left-arm pacer Salauddin Sakil contributing two dismissals.

Dhaka Division's triumph was not without its challenges, as they initially fell 12 runs behind Khulna's first innings total. However, they quickly recovered to seal the victory, showcasing their resilience and strategic acumen.

Overall, the recent NCL matches highlighted the dynamic shifts in team strengths and the emergence of key players poised to influence the league's trajectory.
