Suryakumar Yadav Undergoes Surgery in London, Out of Action Until August - Reports
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be out of action for a while due to another injury. Reports say he has flown to London for surgery, just before a packed Indian cricket season. The 33-year-old might miss a few months, which puts his chances of playing in the upcoming India vs Bangladesh series in doubt.
According to News24 reporter Vaibhav Bhola, Suryakumar Yadav has gone to England for medical treatment. India’s T20I captain recently played in the T20 Mumbai League but has now taken a break to focus on his health. Reports say the 33-year-old is dealing with a sports hernia on his right side and will undergo treatment for it.
Suryakumar Yadav is once again dealing with a sports hernia, this time on his right side. He had a similar issue on his left side last year and had surgery in Germany in January 2024. After recovering, he played in the IPL and was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad. Now, he has flown to England for treatment and is expected to miss at least one or two months of cricket. This is a big blow as Surya is currently in top form.
He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of IPL 2025 and scored over 25 runs in every match for Mumbai Indians. His injury could rule him out of the India vs Bangladesh series in August, which includes 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. With the team just finishing the England series, some players might take rest. Shubman Gill, the T20 vice-captain could be considered, but the selectors might also explore other options if Surya isn’t fit in time.
