Suryakumar Yadav Attends ICC Hearing Over Pahalgam Remarks, Could Face Fine

Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav attended a hearing by the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding his comments after India’s Asia Cup 2025 group match against Pakistan. After the match, he had dedicated India’s win to the armed forces and expressed support for the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack. He was accompanied to the ICC hearing by BCCI COO Hemang Amin and Cricket Operations Manager Summer Mallapurkar.

The hearing, led by Richie Richardson, happened after the ICC filed an official complaint against Suryakumar Yadav. He could either get a warning or have 15% of his match fees taken as a fine.

"Surya attended the ICC hearing today. He was accompanied by BCCI's COO and Cricket Operations Manager. Richardson explained to him that he shouldn't be making any comments that could be seen as political in nature. The sanction can't be ascertained. Since it falls under Level 1, it could either be a warning or a financial penalty of 15 percent deductions in match fees," a tournament source privy to the details told PTI.

Suryakumar Supports Pahalgam Victims, ICC to Review Pakistan Players’ Actions

The Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people lost their lives, strained the relationship between India and Pakistan even further. During the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha in either of the matches between the two teams. After winning the group stage match on September 14, Suryakumar made an important comment about Pahalgam.

"Perfect occasion, taking the time out - we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all, and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile," the India skipper said at the post-match presentation.

The ICC will also have a separate hearing about BCCI’s complaint against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their provocative actions. Farhan made a ‘gun’ celebration after his half-century in the Super 4 match against India, while Rauf showed the controversial ‘6-0’ gesture.
