Steve Smith confirmed as PSL’s most expensive player ever
Australian batter Steve Smith has been confirmed as the most expensive player of the PSL after Sialkot Stallionz directly signed him ahead of the auction for PKR 140 million.
Smith goes past Saim
The franchise had not disclosed the fee at the time of announcing Smith’s inclusion last week.
With the figure now confirmed, Smith goes past Saim Ayub, who was signed for PKR 126 million by Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, to take the top spot.
The right-handed batter will play in the PSL for the first time, despite having extensive experience across franchise leagues, including the Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, The Hundred, Major League Cricket, and the Big Bash League.
Australians aplenty
Smith comes as part of a strong Australian contingent set to feature in this year’s PSL. In total, 15 Australian players across eight teams are part of the PSL, with Sialkot Stallionz featuring the highest number among them.
The 35-year-old comes off a standout Big Bash League campaign, where he averaged 59.80 and struck at 167.97, scoring one century and two fifties. He played a key role in Sydney Sixers’ run to the final.
List of the five most expensive PSL players:
Steve Smith (Sialkot Stallionz) – 140 million
Saim Ayub (Hyderabad Houston Kings) – 126 million
Naseem Shah (Rawalpindi) – 86.5 million
Faheem Ashraf (Islamabad United) – 85 million
