South Africa national cricket team got their revenge for last edition’s final by beating India national cricket team by 76 runs in front of a full crowd in Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s biggest cricket stadium. India were once again outplayed in a big match. David Miller starred with the bat, while Marco Jansen impressed with the ball. South Africa were better in batting, bowling, and fielding, giving India a heavy defeat.

Earlier in the game, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. The visitors were rocked early by the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. They had the Proteas tottering at 20/3 when David Miller and Dewald Brevis put on a batting masterclass. They added 97 runs for the fourth wicket. Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton all fell for single-digit scores.

Brevis fell for 45 but Miller carried on and brought up a fine half-century. He scored 64 off 35 before holing out in the deep. Tristan Stubbs played a fine cameo, remaining not out on 44 off 24 as South Africa finished on 187/7 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, taking three for 15 in four overs. Arshdeep Singh backed him up with a fine spell of 2/28 from his four. Varun Chakaravarthy almost went for 12 per over as he bagged a wicket from his four overs. Hardik Pandya, too, conceded over 40 runs.

In reply, Ishan Kishan, who has been the backbone of India’s batting, bagged a four-ball duck. Abhishek Sharma, who had three ducks in as many T20 World Cup outings, finally, got off the mark but could not carry on and make it count as he fell for 15 off 12. Tilak Varma played a rash shot and was dismissed for just 1.

Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma tried to steady the ship with a partnership of 21 runs for the third wicket before the latter lost his wicket inside the powerplay. Sky and Washington Sundar added 17 runs for the fourth wicket. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube added 35 for the sixth wicket to give India some hope but as South Africa kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals, the Men in Blue were eventually bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs.

Marco Jansen bagged four wickets, Keshav Maharaj got three, while Corbin Bosch picked up a couple of wickets. Aiden Markram started the defense with the big wicket of Ishan Kishan.
