SMAT 2025: Jaiswal Confirms Mumbai Comeback, Rohit Sharma May Play Next Round

Star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who recently hit an unbeaten 116 in the third ODI against South Africa on Saturday (December 6), is set to play for Mumbai in the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Super League games and the final will be held in Pune from December 12 to 18.
As per a Cricbuzz report on Sunday, the 23-year-old left-hander, who last played a T20I for India in July 2024 against Sri Lanka, has agreed to join the defending champions for the ongoing domestic T20 tournament.
“He has made himself available for the SMAT campaign in the super league," a top Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official was quoted.
Mumbai, which is playing SMAT 2025 under the leadership of Shardul Thakur, booked their place in the Super League on Saturday afternoon. The defending champions have won five out of six Elite Group A matches played so far. Mumbai will finish their group stage campaign on Monday (December 8) against Odisha. Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Ayush Mhatre won’t be available for Mumbai in the SMAT 2025 Super League matches.
Surya and Dube will be with the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against South Africa starting December 9 in Cuttack. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre, the top run-scorer of SMAT 2025 with two centuries, will be in Dubai with the India U19 team for the U19 Asia Cup. The right-handed batter was appointed as India’s captain for the eight-team tournament which is set to start on December 12.
Rohit Sharma Likely to Return
Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is on June 29, 2024, is likely to play for Mumbai in the SMAT 2025. According to a report in the Times of India on Thursday, the former India captain has told the team that he wants to play for Mumbai in the next round of the tournament. Rohit, who is India’s highest run-getter in T20Is, last played a T20 match on June 1, 2025, for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings at Narendra Modi Stadium.
