Shubman Gill Injury Update: Blow to Hands Raises Concerns Ahead of Boxing Day Test

Shubman Gill Injury Update: Blow to Hands Raises Concerns Ahead of Boxing Day Test

A video shared by Revsportz showed that Shubman Gill suffered a blow on his hand while he was facing Mohammed Siraj during a net session on Tuesday (December 24). He immediately shook his hand in pain.

Siraj quickly checked on him to see if the injury was serious, talking with him briefly before the team physio arrived. After attending to him, Siraj resumed bowling and Gill kept batting, hinting strongly that the injury was nowhere near serious enough to force him out of the boxing day test. He has earlier missed a Test match in Perth, and he will need to be careful during practice with the broken thumb. Hopefully, the pain will subside, and he will be ready for the next game.

The Indian team trained on a fresh wicket today after practicing on used wickets that were low and slow in the past two sessions. Those used surfaces were quite different from what is expected for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Hence, the new wicket may have had some extra bounce and pace, which probably caused the blow to Gill's hand in the nets.

The Indian team's net sessions have been marred by a host of injury concerns, including one for captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit was hit on the knee and required attention from the physio, while Akash Deep also received a blow to his arm while batting.

Gill has also been a worry, as he broke his thumb during the series. Rohit and Akash are fine and will be playing in the next game. Gill will get well in time before the match. India cannot afford any more injuries, especially with players like Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav out of the game. Gill plays a crucial role at No.3 and has performed well here.

The fourth Test between Australia and India will get underway on Thursday, December 26 in Melbourne and the series is at level terms at 1-1.
