Shreyas Iyer Confirms Availability for West Zone in Duleep Trophy 2025

The star Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has confirmed he’s ready to play for West Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which starts on August 28, 2025. The West Zone team selection will happen on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.
Alongside Iyer, Mumbai’s middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan and all-rounder Shivam Dube have also informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of their availability for the tournament. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande is another player eager to join the squad.
“We’ve heard from Iyer, Sarfaraz, Shivam Dube, and Tushar Deshpande, they’re all set to play in the Duleep Trophy,” a source from the MCA

Iyer’s Recent Form Strengthens His Case
Iyer, who has played 14 Test matches for India, scoring one century and five half-centuries, last featured in a Test against England in February 2024. However, he played a key role in India’s victory at the 50-over Champions Trophy in Dubai earlier this year. More recently, Iyer led Punjab Kings to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final and fell short of winning the trophy.
Despite his strong performances, the BCCI selectors chose Karun Nair, who has had an excellent performance in the recent domestic cricket tournaments. With his extraordinary performance, he was selected for India’s ongoing Test tour of England instead of Iyer.
It’s unclear if players currently on the England tour will participate in the Duleep Trophy, as they’ve been away from home for four months and may need a break to maintain their workload. West Zone selectors are unlikely to pick Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur, giving them rest to gear up for the long domestic season ahead.
Similarly, South Zone, led by newly appointed captain Tilak Varma, has decided not to include KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, and Mohammed Siraj for this tournament.
